Hey Everybody!
Hope you all had a great weekend, I had a bunch of fun in Morocco, it was definately an interesting experience. Friday morning we headed to the Ronda train station and took a train to Algeciras from there we took a taxi to Tarifa the city all the way at the bottom of Spain, from there we boarded a boat that took us across the Straight of Gibralter into the port of Tanger, Morocco. Once in Tanger we met up with our guide and had a driving tour of Tanger. Then we rode camels!! Which made me a little nervous but it was a lot of fun. Then we had a short walking tour of the city and ended up at a traditional Moroccan resturant where we had a 4 course meal of soup, kabobs, chicken and cous cous, baklava and tea. Then we went to "bazar" where they make hand made rugs, they almost convinced me I need one :) after that we went to a traditional Moroccan pharmacy where they have lots of different spices and herbs. After some shopping we were taken to our hotel and had dinner there, we were pretty tired after dinner because in Morocco they don't observe day light savings time so they are 2 hours behind Spain's time. The second day we journed back into town on our own for some souviner shopping and I got a cool pillow case and some post cards. Around 3:30 we got picked up and taken back to the boat. We arrived back in Tarifa, Spain around 9pm (Spain time) and found our hotel. Then we headed out into the town to grab some dinner, we ended up at a small Mexican resturant that was pretty yummy! The next morning we started our journey back to Ronda and got home around 3pm.
Being in Morocco was definately an interesting cultural experience, we saw all different types of dress from the full burka to just head scarfs or nothing and the traditional dress with regular clothes, like jeans underneath. One thing that really amazed me was how many languages the people spoke our tour guide could speak Arabic, French, Spanish, English and Italian, and most of the shop owners could speak Arabic, French Spanish and English. Another thing I found interesting was how strongly people reacted to us, the shop owners and taxi drivers couldn't leave us alone but in a resturant none of the people would even sit across from us, we watched 2 women move as well as a woman and her son, for no reason other than the fact that we were at the table across from them.
All in all I think it was a worth while trip, it was a really neat experience to be thrown into a completely different culture. Also I got a bunch of stamps in my passport :) I have a couple pics below!
Nothing too exciting for this weekend we've been talking about taking a day trip to Sevilla and we're also going to be celebrating Halloween in Ronda, so I guess I'll need to get a costume!
Enjoy the pictures & have a great week!
Love & Besos
Alex
